After finishing Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity, I jumped straight into Quake 2. I picked up the Quake franchise on Steam a few years ago, played Quake, and loved the shit out of it. And Id has had Q2 OST's vinyl release on hold for I think two years by now. To the point that it's the only Quake game that doesn't have a map or a weapon in Quake Champions despite being the best selling Quake game back in the day. In any case I'm gonna cheerish anything that comes out. The point of playing Q2 always was playing RA2 (among others) and hopefully CTF with an offhand hook. If it's only going to be official content then the only thing Q2's remaster would offer is a generic single player and coop mode, its tedious expansions, and simpleton FFA.

So I hope they managed to license some mods and maps. This actually is a bit of an issue with the remaster. Whereas in other Quake games like QL and QC, 99.9% of content that anybody's played was featured in the official game. No one actually played vanilla content in Q2 online. And all of that in thousands of new maps. RA2, CTF, Action, Instagib, TDM, KOTS, Kick, DDay, Jump. Other than Q2DM1 (The Edge), everything that everybody remembers as a fond memory of playing Q2 online was actually something created by the community.

It's just a generic military shooter, with a tiny bit of sci fi, and a storyline so bland no one remembers it.īut at the same time Q2 has by far the best community made multiplayer mods and maps of the entire Quake franchise. Truth is Q2 is very much meh as a vanilla game. If they could add the PlayStation and N64 versions as add-ons like they did with Quake 1, that would also be kickass I hope the rumors of the remaster are real and that my favorite Quake game can get the same bells and whistles as the first Quake while also making it available on the Nintendo Switch. It's a game I think is brilliantly designed, and everyone needs to give a fair chance. I love how each weapon has its own distinct strengths and weaknesses and its own role within the selection, and the slower switch speed encourages not only good positioning to guarantee that you have time to switch if you need to but also encourages thoughtful choices in weapons and really considering which one to use for each encounter. It covers pretty much all of the bases for me, fun enemies and encounter design, the enemies themselves have really cool body horror designs, I love the level design and how it still has that exploration and secret-hunting that characterizes boomer shooters, and I adore the weapon design. It's my favorite game in the series, rivaled only by one other entry.
